Sunflower, Girasole Evening Sun

Sunflower, Girasole Evening Sun is a branching sunflower with deep reddish orange petals and dark center disk.  Annual, upright plant producing large flowers with orangey red petals and a large dark centre. Very imposing unusual effect when in flower, may also be used for flower arranging and sunflower seed production

Ornamental sunflower "Evening Sun" (Helianthus annuus) is an extremely attractive variety that delights with its blooms. These large plants develop stiff, erect stems that grow 7' to 8' tall. In summer large, single inflorescences with diameter of 5-8" sit atop them. These inflorescences have dark centres that are surrounded by long ray flowers that take on different colours from light crimson to red-brown. Due to their height sunflowers make for perfect background or windshield for other plants. They can be grown alongside walls and fences. You may cut off the flowers that will adorn your home in vases for a long time.

Ornamental sunflowers are propagated from seeds sown directly to the ground in spring. Place sunflower seeds in holes 16-20" apart. Sunflowers, as their name indicates, are plants of the sun and thrive in full exposure to our star. They grow well in well cultivated and medium-rich soils. These annual plants are quite hungry, though, and grow and bloom better when supplied with sufficient amounts of nutrients through fertilization.
